Operation P.L.A.Y, a non-profit organization dedicated to childhood obesity awareness and prevention, will host Kid Fit Fest at Underground Atlanta on Saturday, April 30 from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This event is free and will include body mass index screenings, games and activities, and nutrition demonstrations. Kid Fit Fest will take place indoors on Lower Alabama & Lower Pryor Street.
Parents will have the opportunity to learn their child’s body mass index (BMI) which is an indicator of whether or not they are underweight, healthy weight, overweight or obese. The screenings are non-invasive and only require collecting the child’s weight, age, and height. Morehouse School of Medicine and local pediatricians will be on hand to talk to parents about the health implications of not maintaining a healthy body weight and the benefits of physical activity.
Kids can take the Operation P.L.A.Y. Physical Challenge to win prizes. An activity specialist will lead games to show kids ways to stay fit while having fun.
Every 30 minutes there will be a nutrition demonstration led by a registered dietitian to help families learn about healthy meal and snack options. Parents will receive free recipe cards, meal planning ideas, and grocery shopping tips.
