African-American History for Dummies
Freelance writer and African-American history enthusiast, Ronda Penrice, will be at Underground Atlanta on Saturday, February 28, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, to discuss her first book, African American History for Dummies, a part of the globally-branded “For Dummies” series. Penrice has written for a diverse array of publications aimed primarily at the African-American audience, as well as held key editorial positions at the Quarterly Black Review of Books, Rap Pages and Upscale. The Chicago native (with deep Mississippi roots) and Columbia University graduate, has covered everything from music, film, sports and travel to books, theatre, fitness and current events for publications such as Essence, Vibe.com, The Source, Honey, The Atlanta Voice, Creative Loafing, UPTOWN, EbonyJet.com and more. Join Underground Atlanta in celebration of Black History Month as Ronda Penrice helps us remember, discover, and celebrate…BLACK HISTORY! Black In Film:
A Series of Conversations and a Showcase of Historical Lineage in Cinema
Don’t miss your last chance to experience award-winning panelist discuss what’s in and what’s out in Black Hollywood. Last week the “Black In Film” series presented a film screening of Lady Sings the Blues, starring Diana Ross, followed by an open lecture and discussion entitled, “The Untold Story of a Place Called Black Hollywood.” This Saturday, February 28 at 12 noon, join the African-American Cinema Gallery and the Peachtree International Film Festival again as they present the final panel discussion entitled, “Cast Me If You Can.” (Located in the ACVB Welcome Center Theatre on Upper Alabama and Pryor Street across from Quiznos).
